Trying New Things

Trying New Things

I’ve wanted to write a blog post for about two days now but didn’t know what to say, or how to get my thoughts on paper. As a result, I had a minor panic that I wasn’t a creative person, and that I had become boring and uninteresting.

I’m only 21 years old, so being boring and conventional cannot happen. I need to go story collecting and be trying new things every single day, especially if I want to go into the music industry at some point.

To counter my fear of being boring (and because I was bored at the time), I started googling how to become a more interesting person, and like when you search for the illness you think you have, you are always doomed. I mean, wiki-how told me to do things like base jumping and cliff diving, like the average ‘interesting’ person does, right? I will admit, I haven’t tried something new or ‘progressed’ for a while now and have become a little stagnant. I listen to the same music, watch re-runs of Friends and How I Met Your Mother on Comedy Central, and will take the same commute to university and back. Although there literally is nothing wrong with this (I am who I am), I haven’t done much in a while.

The eye opener was watching the Glastonbury 2015 highlights and realising I seriously need to update my music taste and explore a few more genres, it’s really surprising how many bands I barely new, like The Black Keys and Clean Bandit. After listening to both all night (on repeat, because they are both surprisingly incredible…) I made the conclusion I want, better yet I NEED, to try new things and do more.

For me personally, money is a big object in the way. As a student living in London I am broke 24/7, but that shouldn’t stop me having fun. There are a lot of cool, unconventional things to do without money, like free gigs, two-for-one movie nights and trying new coffee (for me that’s fun, I don’t care what you say). I’ve also realised that, as I just said, I don’t really care about anything anymore. I no longer keep up with the news, play sport and I barely play any instruments anymore (not by choice, believe me). So this is where Wiki comes into its element, because I read that by not caring about anything, no one will care about you, which makes sense right?

Anyway, it’s about time I just did something about it and shut up, I don’t want a conventional life at all, I want to experience and do as much as possible, without fear of anything. Thats my new goal, to try new things, whether it just be a new restaurant, movie or place to go on my day off, I will venture and see a little more of what’s out there.

I hope I’ve somewhat inspired you. Being boring is conventional, and being conventional is boring.
